The Parish Church is a well-known landmark, standing on the A31 at a north-south and east-west intersection of main routes. It is well-loved by the people of Ringwood, whether regular church-goers or not, and offers excellent acoustics for concerts.
Domesday Book records a church at Ringwood - probably a wooden building. The next, around 1200, was of stone but in the early 1800s was in such bad repair that it was pulled down and rebuilt.
The present building (listed Grade II*) was put up in 1853-5, including many memorials, and so on, from the old one. Worth a visit is a memorial brass (recently conserved) to John Prophete, Rector of Ringwood, who died in 1416, and a modern “tapestry” wall-hanging showing features of the New Forest.
Short guided tours followed by a cream tea are available for parties of 20 or more by arrangement.
